Besetzung: 2 Klarinetten, Bassetthorn Bassklarinette. Alternativstimmen für 3. Klarinette oder Alt-Klarinette

Kings’ Club Suite – for Clarinet Quartet

A relaxed atmosphere and the charm of a jazz club – perhaps Benny Goodman, Igor Stravinsky and Bill Evans are sitting at one of the tables.

The four movements of the Kings’ Club Suite take us through different musical worlds. The first invites us into a fascinating club. In the slow second movement, Stravinsky dreams of his own vision of jazz – an allusion to the third movement of his Three Pieces for Clarinet. The third movement gathers momentum with the drive of a walking bass, before Ebony Dance brings the suite to a dancing finale. Its title is a playful reference to Stravinsky’s Ebony Concerto, linking his world of jazz with the dark elegance of the clarinet’s wooden body.

The Kings’ Club Suite is an original composition by Wolfgang Kornberger and is featured on the album Clarinets à la King by the VIENNA CLARINET CONNECTION.
